The team at Claitec is constantly seeking ways to solve our clients’ challenges and to improve upon the tools currently available for them to do so. The AV-30 – the next step in the evolution of the AV-50 verification antenna – is the result of this pursuit.

The purpose of the AV-50 device is to verify the status of the batteries and the correct functioning of the active tags’ RF communication in a certain workspace. Using additional software and a USB device connected to a computer, this tool allows the date and time of the verified tags to be recorded.

In addition to the verification antenna, the AV-50 can be used as an Access Control. This function is now improved thanks to the AV-30, which can send an output signal that activates an electromagnet and can also have a potential-free relay to activate other elements, such as an automatic door, a pilot light, or a traffic light.

The AV-30 delivers different innovative solutions compared to the AV-50, including:

  • It is a more compact solution.
  • It can perform both functions i.e., antenna verification and access control.
  • It is powered at 100 – 240 VAC through an IP68 connector.
  • It is easier to install, saving time and increasing efficiency.
  • It can be mounted on the wall and on a pole aided by several accessories.

We all know the critical role forklifts play in our industries. They are irreplaceable tools that provide us with efficiency and results. However, the coexistence of this machines with workers on foot poses a significant threat to occupational safety and it is a generator of work accidents, run-ins or major damages.

That’s why in this post we want to discuss three key tools that help segregate forklifts from pedestrians and significantly improve traffic in our workplaces.

1) PAS Pedestrian Alert System:

A reference tool in this area and an essential tool for any industry. The PAS system warns forklift drivers as soon as it detects a person at adjustable distances from 1 to 6.5 meters. This system is capable of differentiating between people and objects, and it even detects workers who are behind a wall or a shelf. A tool that has achieved remarkable results in very different contexts, the PAS system complements easily other safety measures in our workspaces.

2) VAS Solution (Visualisation of Safety Alerts):

Our Visual Alert System, an innovative development designed to warn pedestrians and/or forklift drivers of a potentially risky situation by projecting signals on the ground. Such signs are highly visible to operators and easy to detect, and they become very useful in spaces with high frequency of pedestrian movement. The signs emitted by the VAS solution stand out against the more basic traditional panoramic mirrors and signs used in industries up until now.

3) PSG System (Pedestrian Safety Gate):

A safety gate designed to reduce risk situations in high-activity environments. This system has two functionalities: creating safe pedestrian crossings and restricting entry to improperly protected personnel. It combines with the TCS Traffic Control system, automatically interacting with other Claitec devices to block pedestrian crossings in the event of an approaching forklift.

It is a pleasure to work with you both!

The coexistence of forklifts and pedestrians in our industries is a complex issue and a matter for constant concern given that it can be a highly influential factor in the generation of occupational accidents and safety problems. That is why, in this post, we want to provide some useful advice to have a perfectly functioning transit flow and, consequently, improve the safety in our workspaces.

Forklifts on one side, pedestrians on the other

Una primera medida de suma importancia para mejorar la seguridad laboral y evitar accidentes es establecer zonas diferenciadas para el tránsito de las carretillas y los peatones. En tal sentido, podemos pensar que un espacio de A very important first measure to help improve occupational safety and prevent accidents is to establish clearly differentiated zones for forklift and pedestrian traffic. If you imagine a workspace to be like a city you can then draw lines to separate different spaces. Generally, green lines will indicate the areas where pedestrians circulate, while yellow lines determine the space for forklifts. We can also indicate particularly dangerous places, fast and slow transit spaces, entry and exit points for heavy machinery, or spaces provided for the storage of merchandise, among others.

Marking of special areas

En todo espacio industrial hay ciertas zonas que se utilizan con frecuencia para tareas de mayor intensidad o riesgo, por ejemplo, espacios de recepción o descarga de mercadería. Por lo tanto, para evitar accidentes, podemos contar cIn every industrial space there are certain areas that are frequently used for tasks of greater intensity or risk, such as spaces for receiving or unloading merchandise. Therefore, to avoid accidents, we can delineate areas to be specifically reserved for such activities and ensure that those who work there have the necessary training, as well as the complementary protection measures, such as fencing or safety devices like the PAS System.

Safe crossings

More information, fewer accidents

Equally important is to establish clear guidelines on the use of forklift and pedestrian traffic routes, the function of crossings and the importance of respecting the safety regulations. We must keep all the members of our teams informed and up-to-date at all times, as well as the people who may visit our workspaces frequently. This will have a direct and very positive impact on improving safety and preventing accidents at work.

It’s a common manoeuvre.

Forklifts everywhere circulate in reverse gear in our narrow and complex-to-navigate spaces while carrying large loads, creating potentially risky situations, and causing accidents or threatening occupational safety in our warehouses.

That’s why in this post we would like to introduce three tools designed to prevent problems when machines are operating in reverse gear.

1- The PAS Pedestrian Alert System, one of our hero tools!

This system has proven to be highly efficient in all kinds of uses to improve industrial safety. It is undoubtedly a key ally in the prevention of accidents when trucks are manoeuvring in reverse gear.
The PAS System warns forklift drivers when it detects a person at adjustable distances from 1 to 6.5 meters. It is capable of differentiating people and objects, and it can even detect workers located behind a wall or a shelf.
It is, therefore, a safe and efficient tool in reverse gear driving situations because drivers will notice a warning when another operator is in their vicinity no matter how focused they are on manoeuvring.

2- The CAS-G2 Anti-Collision System.

A system designed to prevent forklift crashes. The next step up in Claitec’s CAS System evolution, this new state-of-the-art tool warns forklift drivers when it detects other cargo vehicles in nearby areas and in risk situations.

El funcionamiento del CAS-G2 se basa en la detección de otros vehículos también equipados con éste. Las zonas de detección son configurables, con un alcance de hasta 40 metros. De esa forma, aunque la carretilla se encuentre en un Once a forklift is equipped with the CAS-G2 system, it detects other vehicles also equipped with the same device. Detection zones are configurable, with a range of up to 40 meters. This means that even if the forklift is in a blind spot or it is moving behind a shelf or through a space that cannot be perceived, the system will detect its presence, and will notify drivers approaching it, so that they can take the necessary precautions.

3- The VAS Alert Display System.

A new development that warns pedestrians and/or forklift drivers of dangerous situations by projecting signals on the ground. The VAS System helps organise pedestrian and forklift traffic and is very efficient in alerting operators. Someone circulating when a forklift is conducting a reverse manoeuvre will be able to see the warning signs and take the necessary precautions to prevent an otherwise unavoidable accident.

There is no denying that automatic guided vehicles – also known as AGVs – are extremely useful tools in our industries. However, just as we recognise them for their value and efficiency, it is good to ensure that other operators in the same perimeters are aware of their presence. That is why in today’s post we want to put the focus on a tool that is fast becoming a key ally in the safe inclusion of AGVs and operating manual forklifts in the same environment – the CAS-G2 Truck Anti-Collision System.

Mitsubishi Logisnext Europe Oy (MLE Oy), – manufacturer of traditional warehouse trucks, automated guided vehicles (Rocla AGV), and electric heavy load forklifts – has been using the CAS-G2 system to warn drivers when other vehicles are detected. The company has achieved excellent results with its own AGVs and with those of one of their own clients who was also seeking to guarantee the safety of AGVs in areas shared with forklifts.

MLE installed the CAS-G2 system in AGVs with the group function, allowing them to ignore or leave those devices that belong to the same group undetected. This means that two AGVs in the same group are able to efficiently carry out their operations coordinated by traffic control even in close vicinity but each one of them will detect vehicles outside of that pre-established category, such as forklifts configured to be located by any CAS-G2 system. So, when an AGV detects a manual forklift in the proximity of the CAS-G2 device, it  does not accelerate, but keeps the current speed and emits lights signals. This gives the forklift driver a visual cue about the nearby AGV. Should the distance decrease further between the two vehicles, the AGV will continue sending the light signals and stop. In this specific case, the customer did not choose to add the function of an audio buzzer on the manual forklift to support the visual signals of the AGV.

The Groups function of the CAS-G2 equipment allows us to create four groups of machines in the same workplace: A, B, C and D. This function helps us differentiate machines that belong to different groups, which, for example, are performing different tasks in the same space, not only gaining efficiency in conducting the task but also preventing work accidents and safety incidents. For instance, when this function is running, the “Type A” device only sees the “Type B” device and vice versa. Meanwhile, if the group function is disabled, the CAS-G2 device detects any CAS-G2 device in the detection area.

The CAS-G2 forklift anti-collision system is an electronic safety development that evolves from Claitec’s CAS system. A state-of-the-art tool designed to warn forklift drivers when it detects other cargo vehicles in nearby areas and considers them at risk.

The coexistence between forklifts or large machinery and pedestrians is one of the more complex safety issues in the large workspaces where we operate. Our latest solution has been specifically designed to assist in minimising this problem: The Pedestrian Safety Gate (PSG), a safety gate designed to reduce risk situations in this type of environments.

The PSG system has two main functions: to ensure the safe crossing of pedestrians and to deter the access of inappropriately protected persons.

The gates can be easily combined with the TCS Traffic Control system, easily and automatically interacting with Claitec’s devices to prevent pedestrians from crossing in the presence of a forklift, even in low visibility areas.

The PSG system can be supplied with different accessories, such as traffic lights or other indicator lights, sensors and manual emergency buttons.

The access control version can be combined with the AV-30, to allow the passage of pedestrians equipped with a Tag (T-10 or T-10R), which works correctly and has enough battery.

The PSG is a durable and reliable system specially designed for the protection of pedestrians in all types of industries. The design of these safety gates is also optimised to be able to be easily replaced or integrated to previously installed fences. As “telescopic doors” they have a sensory length of 750 to 1000mm. They stand out for their ease of installation and levelling, as well as their ease in changing the opening direction. If necessary, a traffic light can also be installed to complement the role of the gates.

The PSG will be your greatest ally in improving safety in your workspaces and in significantly reducing the chances of vehicles running over pedestrians and the number of accidents at work between forklifts or large machinery and operators, both in warehouses and in loading areas. and discharge, or industries of all kinds, particularly in low visibility workspaces.

June – International Environment Month – is coming to an end. At Claitec, we would like to take this opportunity to highlight the key role that environmental factors play in our overall business strategy and in the design of all our industrial safety systems.

Caring for the environment, respecting nature, and the development of a sustainable environment must be concerns we all take into account in our workplaces. Technology is a powerful tool which – when applied appropriately – can help us become more efficient and considerably reduce our environmental impact.

All Claitec’s processes are carried out under the ISO 9001: 2015 and ISO 14001: 2015 quality and environment certifications, reinforcing the importance environmental concerns play in our philosophy, designs, development and commercialization of safety systems for the protection of people, and always seeking to improve our processes and add value to customers.

We are 100% committed to caring for the environment and we cannot conceive a solution if it is not truly responsible towards the environment, and without generating a sustainability plan for that system in relation to its manufacture, its use, and its subsequent disposal. This is how we approach suppliers, clients, and the general public.

In addition, we feel every industry must have its own environmental management and responsibility plan, and as such, we invite you to be as environmentally aware as possible and start taking action!

This Wednesday, April 28 marks another World Day for Safety and Health at Work, and at Claitec we could not agree more with the motto that the International Labor Organization (ILO) proposes this year: “anticipate, prepare and respond to crises” as well as with its call to “invest today in resilient occupational health and safety systems”.

According to the organisation itself, the Covid-19 pandemic has forced us all to face unprecedented challenges which have severely impacted our workspaces. Given this current situation we need our workplaces to be resilient and to able to cope with this type of crises, both today and in the future. And we need to be able to learn from these experiences and make the most of them.

In turn, this date is a good opportunity to put a focus on the importance of anticipating problems, preparing for, and strengthening our health and safety systems in our workplaces. We need to understand that investment in health and safety at work brings immediate benefits and it allows us to preserve a firm’s most precious asset – the integrity of each of the members of our teams.

Similarly, we should also talk about the leading role acquired by technological solutions that have helped us respond to new needs and highlight the great contribution technology makes in the construction of safer and healthier spaces – from accident prevention to helping avoid further contagion, for instance.

In this sense, at Claitec we are immensely proud to have contributed with the development of a solution that ensures social distancing – the T-10R SD (Social Distance Sensor). Based on the older T-10R, the T-10R SD incorporates a modification designed to alert operators when the programmed safety distance between people in the same room is breached.

This innovative tool focuses on monitoring proximity, in such a way as to maintain the established physical distance between people, helping us preventing contagions. The technology applied in this device is also used to avoid vehicle collisions in the CAS-G2 tool and can be combined with the PAS system, designed to warn drivers when an operator is detected nearby.

In conclusion, on this World Day for Safety and Health at Work, we call for all of us to continue to be responsible and innovative in our search for workspaces with fewer workplace accidents and fewer daily risks. That is where we place our efforts, and we know that by working together we can achieve great results.
